Funchal distinguished with Honorable Mention to Accesibility.

The city of Funchal, in Madeira island was awarded this week by the European Commission with an Honorable Mention of the Accessible City Award 2017. This award was presented last Tuesday 29th in Brussels.

A total of 43 cities were present in the contest. The finalists from Funchal were chosen: Chester (United Kingdom), Rotterdam (Holland), Alessandria (Italy), Jurmala (Latvia), Lugo (Spain) and Skelleftea .

The Honorable Mention attributed to the madeiran municipality recognized that due to its "volcanic character, the effort in the sense that its beaches, main tourist sights, hotels and public spaces are accessible, so that both residents and tourists with weaknesses Have the same opportunities as the rest of the population while enjoying their vacation. "

For the Mayor, Paulo Cafôfo to this Honorable Mention came to give visibility to the work that is being done to make the municipality more Accessible and Inclusive. The mayor also added that Funchal wants to be a destination of Excellence for Inclusive Tourism.
